Hockey Night’s in Cranberry are set to return to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in November.  The 2020-2021 PIHL Varsity schedule was released this week and the Trojans are primed to pick up where they left off last season.  The 2019 season marked the return of varsity hockey to North in over a decade and the team did not disappoint.  They finished the regular season first in the Northwest division with a record of 17-2-1 and second overall in the Class A standings.  In the post season, they won an exciting 2-1 OT victory over South Park in the quarterfinals but come up short against Thomas Jefferson in the semi-final.

The 2020 Trojans boast a solid returning core of players led by eight seniors.  This year’s group will be supported by key new additions upfront at forward, on the blueline in defense, and in between the pipes at goal.  “Our depth this year top to bottom on our roster is our greatest strength.  We only graduated three seniors last year and our returners are hungry to win a PIHL title” said Coach Hoffmann.

This year’s schedule has the Trojan’s playing in the Northeast division with new divisional opponents in Fox Chapel, Freeport, and Kiski.  Eight of the 20 regular season games are played in the division which puts an emphasis on strong play in divisional games.  The season opens on November 3, when the team goes on the road to face Fox Chapel at Alpha Ice Complex for a 7:00pm puck drop.  The Trojans will play their first three games away from home before their home opener on November 24 against Blackhawk.  “This season will present a unique set of challenges for all teams this year due to the pandemic, but we feel we have a team that can do something special.  We are excited to get our season underway and see what we can accomplish as a unit” said Hoffmann.
