Wexford, PA – The North Catholic Trojans were back home this past Friday and faced the undefeated Imani Christian Saints. Offense would look different for both teams as starting Junior QB Joey Felitsky would be out with injury for the Trojans and starting QB Stephen Vandiver would be rested by the Saints. This left the face-off between Junior QB Tom Arth and QB Dayshaun Burnett, who were set to bring excitement to the game.
The Game – QB Tom Arth completed 24 of 41 passes for 381 yards and three touchdowns, all of which included a 14-yard touchdown to Junior WR Ryker Kennedy, and 43 and 5-yard touchdowns to Senior WR Jack White. On defense for the Trojans, Senior DE Brady O'Hara posted 4.5 tackles and 1.0 sacks, while Sophomore CB Ryan Snyder had an interception. For the Saints, QB Dayshaun Burnett had 46 yards on 8 carries and scored 2 touchdowns on runs of 5 and 36 yards. WR Gabe Jenkins rushed for 125 yards on 13 carries and had 3 touchdowns. These scoring runs of 8,10, and 31 yards carried Imani over the Trojans 48-28.
It was a matter of Imani Christian's rushing game that caused the struggle for the Trojans. Despite only 11 passing yards for the Saints, they racked up 286 rushing yards total on offense. The Trojans, however, still maintained high offensive stats with 381 passing yards, 130 rushing yards, and a whopping 511 total yards compared to Imani's 297. This game moved North Catholic (2-0, 3-3) to 2nd in the 3A Western Hills Conference behind Avonworth (2-0, 4-2). The Saints (2-0, 6-0) remain undefeated and are tied for first with Deer Lakes (3-0, 6-0) in the 3A Allegheny 7 Conference.
The North Catholic Trojans are away this Friday at Central Valley (2-1, 2-4) at 7:00pm.
