Pittsburgh PA – The North Catholic Trojans took on the Avonworth Antelopes last Friday after coming off a loss in the homecoming game against the Beaver Bobcats, 48-10. The Lopes won their last contest against McGuffey, 41-13. North Catholic was looking to shake their 3-game losing streak in this big conference matchup as well as earn a possible wildcard playoff spot.
The Game – Avonworth scored 35 points in the first half, holding North Catholic scoreless. Dimitri Velisaris rushed for 59 yards on 10 carries. He had two of Avonworth's 5 touchdowns. The offense came alive for the Trojans in the 2nd half scoring 28 points. Junior QB Joey Felitsky threw for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns, two of which were 56 and 34-yard passes to Senior WR Jack White. White highlighted the offense with 4 receptions for 146 yards. This comeback would not be enough for the Trojans as the Lopes held on, 48-28.
Analysis – The Trojans unfortunately found their game a little too late against Avonworth. Although North Catholic out passed the Lopes with 275 passing yards, Avonworth beat the Trojans with the rushing game, posting 142 yards. The Lopes moved to 7-2 on the season going undefeated in conference play, 5-0. North Catholic (3-6, 2-3) will still have a chance at a wildcard spot with a win this Friday against Hopewell. This will be the Trojans' final home game of the season at Lt. J.C. Stone Field at 7:00pm.
