Dormont, PA – The North Catholic Trojans played their first game of the season on August 23rd against the non-conference Seton LaSalle Rebels. This season presents new challenges for the Trojans as they have moved to the 3A Western Hills Conference. Despite a hard-fought battle, North Catholic lost their season opener 23-12.

 

The Game:

1^st Quarter - Seton LaSalle scored first with a 12-yard passing play, but missed the PAT, leaving the game 6-0. North Catholic responded quickly with Junior QB Joey Felitsky throwing an 80-yard pass to Senior wide receiver Jack White for a touchdown. The game was then tied 6-6 after a missed PAT attempt.

2^nd Quarter - The back-and-forth offense continued as the Rebels quickly regained the lead with a 12-yard rushing touchdown, making it 13-6. The quarter ended with the Trojans turning over possession on a missed field goal, leaving Seton LaSalle with the ball on their own 20-yard line.

3^rd Quarter - Unable to generate any offense, the ball went back to the Trojans, but North Catholic turned over possession on downs leaving the Rebels on the 17-yard line. This time, Seton LaSalle ran the ball getting prime position for a 30-yard field goal expanding their lead 16-6. The remainder of the 3^rd both teams battled, exchanging possession.

4^th Quarter - North Catholic started strong by intercepting Seton LaSalle's pass on their 34-yard line. There was a shift in momentum, but then the Trojans threw an interception themselves, giving the Rebels possession on their own 5-yard line. Seton LaSalle scored another rushing touchdown and a successful PAT, pulling ahead 23-6. As time ran out, the Trojans scored a touchdown with a push from Sophomore Will Waskiewicz, but the failed 2-point conversion sealed victory for the Rebels with a final score of 23-12.

A lot of positives and a lot of things to learn came out of this game for North Catholic, but it is still early, and the team has plenty of football ahead of them. The Trojans will be on the road again as they face Knoch High School (0-1) this Friday at 7:00pm.
