Wexford, PA – The North Catholic Trojans had their first home game at Lt. J.C. Stone Field against the Quaker Valley Quakers last Friday. North Catholic was coming off a nail-biting win against the Blackhawk Cougars 33-32. Senior WR Jack White had the game-winning touchdown with 2 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter off a 47-yard pass from Junior QB Joey Felitsky. On the other side, the Quakers lost their previous game against Freeport 44-12 and have yet to win a game this season. This gave the Trojans an opportunity in front of the home crowd to gain a 2-game win streak.
The Game:
1st Quarter – North Catholic started off the game with a 65-yard drive. Joey Felitsky found Junior WR Ryker Kennedy with a 57-yard pass for a touchdown to start the game. Junior K Dylan Shantz made the PAT, which gave the Trojans an early lead 7-0. Quaker Valley struggled to answer as the team almost fumbled the punt return and only had an 11-yard drive. The Trojans offense came back out and Felitsky found Kennedy again this time with a 32-yard pass leaving North Catholic on the 18-yard line. This set up prime position for a field goal made by Dylan Shantz adding to the score, 10-0. Quaker Valley then threw an interception caught by Junior SAFE Reid Rinker for the Trojans. This gave North Catholic possession on the 48-yard line. A flag and a holding penalty on the Trojans however ended the drive and concluded the 1st quarter.
2nd Quarter – The Quakers would turn over possession on downs, which would give North Catholic another opportunity to expand their lead. Junior RB Logan Schade had a 14-yard run, but the Trojans were unable to generate due to more penalties. On their next drive, the Trojans started with a 13-yard gain off a catch from Ryker Kennedy. Felitsky then had a hand-off to Schade for an 18-yard rushing touchdown. A good PAT put North Catholic up 17-0 mid-2nd quarter. Quaker Valley threw their second interception caught by Ryker Kennedy, which put the Trojans on their own 45-yard line. Penalties again would kill the drive for North Catholic giving the Quakers one last opportunity to get on the scoreboard before halftime. The team had their longest drive of the game so far but could not capitalize. With 7 seconds remaining, Felitsky threw a 12-yard pass to Kennedy for his second touchdown of the game making it 24-0.
3rd Quarter – Quaker Valley started with possession, but fumbled the ball, which left North Catholic on their own 33-yard line. Felitsky flipped a pass to Sophomore WR Will Waskiewicz for 49 yards. Senior RB Christian Naylor would complete the drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Freshman K Matthew Madonna would come into the game for the Trojans and make the PAT expanding the lead 31-0. The Quakers would be held by the Trojan defense, turning over the ball on downs with just over a minute in the 3rd quarter. Joey Felitsky would pitch another pass to Waskiewicz gaining 19 yards. Logan Schade would then lead the next 3 plays of the drive eventually leading to his second touchdown of the game, taking a commanding 38-0 lead.
4th Quarter – With the running clock, Quaker Valley had possession but turned the ball over on downs. The Trojans with a couple short running plays from Christian Naylor and Sophomore RB Anthony Greene put the Trojans in field goal position. With the missed field goal, the Quakers tried to make one last push to get on the scoreboard. The North Catholic defense was unstoppable once again and sealed this dominating victory, 38-0.
This offensive showing and defensive stronghold led to domination on the field for North Catholic. The Trojans hope to carry this momentum into the game this Friday at McGuffey (0-4) at 7:00pm.
