Baseline Concussion Testing

Beginning on June 1, 2022 North Catholic High School, in partnership with Allegheny Health Network, will be switching platforms for neurocognitive testing. We will now be utilizing the Sway System, a research-backed assessment tool that includes a battery of balance tests, cognitive tests, symptom tracking, and on-field assessments.

Testing will still be administered to freshman, junior, and transfer students. As we transition to the Sway System, sophomore and senior athletes who have a recent (within the past two years) C3Logix baseline do not need to take any action. We are still able to run follow-up assessments in that platform if an injury were to occur. We are however working to move out of the C3Logix platform over the next year.

One of the main differences you will notice between this year and years past pertains to the scheduling of these assessments. You will now have two options for accessing a baseline test. As in years past you can schedule an assessment through the form at “concussion.northcatholic.org”. In addition to this option and new this year, you can choose to have your child tested during one of his/her off-season workouts. We will be coordinating with each sport and reaching out through the coach and boosters to alert athletes of these opportunities.
The test will take approximately 20 minutes and will be held by appointment at North Catholic or at the site of their off-season workout. Students are required to bring their smartphone devices to their testing session. Any questions can be directed to Kate Lewandowski (klewandowski@northcatholic.org) or Karen Richards (krichards@northcatholic.org).

* We will accept ImPACT testing as a replacement for Sway. If your child has ImPACT test results that are less than two years old you will be required to submit the results or access code as proof of the test.
