The North Catholic Varsity Cheer season got off to a fantastic start in July when the squad attended the UCA Summer Camp at the Highlands Sports Complex in Triadelphia, West Virgina. The camp focused on crowd-leading, skills training, stunting, leadership, and team bonding to help prepare the team for the upcoming school season. The squad worked with top-level UCA staff in a new, state-of-the-art facility for two-and-a-half long days of intensive workouts and training. The squad learned a variety of new sidelines, cheers, band chants, and dance routines, several of which were performed during the Game Day Championships on the final day. Led by the captains, Ava Smith, Gia Cercone, and Faith Benson, the Varsity squad earned three blue ribbons, a 2nd place trophy for the Camp Routine, and the Most Improved Squad trophy. Several of the North Catholic cheerleaders also won individual awards. Maggie Foley was honored by being named a UCA All-American, Ava Smith won the Jump-off, and both Ava Smith and Abby Spalvieri were recipients of the Pin It Forward Award in recognition of their outstanding sportsmanship.
The time spent at this camp was invaluable to the preparation of the squad this year. Not only did the camp provide new material and squad credentialing, but equally as important, it provided opportunities to make new friends, bond as a team, grow in spirit, and have fun! The Varsity cheer squad is very excited to get this season started and cheer on our North Catholic Trojans football and basketball teams this year. As crowd leaders, spirit raisers, ambassadors, athletes, and entertainers, the Varsity cheerleaders are proud to represent North Catholic and look forward to supporting the school and its athletic teams. Let's Go Trojans! Forever True!
