Katie Hardy and Brea Kelley
Girls Tennis | Junior, Freshmen
October 2 - October 8, 2023

 

North Catholic’s Athlete of the Week is The Girls Tennis Doubles Team of Katie Hardy and Brea Kelley – Despite being seeded #6, Katie and Brea upset two higher-seeded teams (#3 Indiana and #4 Montour) and earned a bronze medal in the WPIAL Doubles tournament. This means they will be the first North Catholic Doubles Team to compete in the state tournament when they travel to Hershey on November 3rd. Way to Go Girls!

Team of the Week
The Team of the Week is Boys Soccer. They got two big section wins to help them clinch a playoff berth. Great Job Guys!

 
Simone Sharpless
Girls Soccer | Sophomore
September 25 - October 1, 2023

Simone Sharpless from Girls Soccer had a terrific week. Simone scored the games only goal in North’s HUGE win over previously undefeated WPIAL 2A #1 Avonworth. The win puts North in a tie for the section lead and opens the door for a potential #1 seed in the playoffs. Simone followed that up with four goals in the Girl’s 9-2 win over Ambridge. Great job Simone!


Giacomo Lepore
Cross Country | Junior
September 25 - October 1, 2023

Giacomo Lepore from Boys Cross Country is our first repeat winner. Another week, another school record. Giacomo won the multi team section meet at Hampton on Tuesday. On Saturday he won the Youthtowne Clash Invitational. He ran a 15:49 - a new school record - on the hilly course. He became the first North Catholic Boy to win a Cross Country invitational in school history. His time of 15:49 is a new school record. Oh, by the way, there were 350 runners registered.

 
Lauren "Peedy" Mealie
Girls Soccer | Junior
September 18 - September 24, 2023

 

North Catholic’s Athlete of the Week is Lauren “Peedy” Mealie. Peedy, a member of the Girls Soccer Team, scored all three goals in North Catholic’s big win over Beaver last week. The midfielder was dominant in front of the net. Scoring all three goals off of corner kicks. She kicked one in, headed another and used her shoulder to complete the “hat trick.” Great job Peedy!

Team of the Week
The Team of the Week is Girls Cross Country. For the second time this fall the Cross Country Girls are the team of the week. They were spectacular at the section race. They went 3-0 as the North Girls finished 1,2,3,and 4. It was Maddy Meeuf who won the race, followed by Alyssa Urling, Gracie Plastino and Grace Lazzara. On Saturday at the PIAA Foundation Meet the girls finished third. Plastino, Meeuf and Lazzara earned medals. Urling, Keelin Schessler, Alex Gongas and Tessa Driehorst also ran well. Keep it going Girls!

North Catholic’s Athlete of the Week is Katie Hardy. Katie, a member of the Girls Tennis Team, became only the second girl in school history to qualify for the WPIAL Singles Tournament. Katie clinched her berth in the WPIAL’s with a dramatic 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 comeback victory over Jade Nether of the defending state champions. That win earned Katie a spot in the section finals. Katie also had a 6-0, 6-0 victory in 1st singles vs Riverview last week. Congratulations Katie and Good Luck!

Team of the Week
The Team of the Week is Girls Volleyball. The Trojanettes went 2-0 for the week to remain undefeated on the season. The BIG WIN was the 3-1 defeat of previously undefeated section rival Mars. Brooke Sciullo led the way with 17 kills in what may have been her best performance of the year. Ella Koziara added 15 kills and Sienna Cozza dished out 36 assists! Great job girls!

 
Giacomo Lepore
Cross Country | Junior
September 4 - September 10, 2023

 

North Catholic's Athlete of the week is Giacomo Lepore. A member of the Boy’s Cross Country Team, Giacomo’s time of 16:16 broke the school record by 9 seconds. He also took 42 seconds off his Personal Record. He finished 5th overall in a loaded field of 200 runners in the prestigious Red, White and Blue Invitational. Giacomo, a junior, is poised to have a breakout season.

Team of the Week
The team of the week is the Girls Soccer. The Girls won both their games last week. On Wednesday they won a tough section match 1-0 over Quaker Valley. Lily Karsman scored the game's only goal. On Saturday, the Girls traveled to Pine Richland and came away with the big 4-1 road win. Simone Sharpless netted three goals and Lauren Mealie added one. Great Job Girls!

Honorable Mentions go to Brea Kelley from Girls Tennis, Dylan Scheel from Boys Soccer and Simone Sharpless from Girls Soccer.

 

Gracie Plastino
Cross Country | Freshman
August 27 - September 3, 2023


The inaugural winner of North Catholic's Athlete of the week is Gracie Plastino. Gracie, a freshman running in her first varsity race, finished second overall out of 170 runners. Her performance helped lead the Girls Cross Country team to a win at the prestigious Marty Uher Vulcan Invitational this past Saturday. Gracie's time of 20:37 was only .09 seconds behind the winner. If opposing coaches did not know who Gracie was before Saturday, they certainly do now!


Team of the Week
The team of the week is the Girls Cross Country Team. It is quite an accomplishment to win a large race like the Marty Uher Vulcan Invitational. North Catholic defeated preseason WPIAL favorites Beaver and Chartiers Valley.  Senior captain Grace Lazzara finished fifth overall with a fantastic time of 21 minutes on the hilly course. Also, scoring points for North were Sophomore Maddy Meeuf, who finished 12th, followed by Freshman Alyssa Urling in 17th, and Junior Keelin Schessler in 20th. Great job girls!


Honorable Mentions
Honorable mentions goes to Lucy Miller from Girls Tennis and Giacomo Lepore from Boys Cross Country. Lucy was 3-0 last week playing doubles. Giacomo came in third overall in the boys race at the Marty Uher Invitational. He ran a fast 17:06 and helped lead the North Boys to a third place finish.
