Cranberry Twp, PA - With the season coming to a close, the North Catholic Trojan Golf team is looking to repeat history. An overall record of 8-3 secures the team a spot in the WPIAL playoffs. I spoke with Senior
Erik Schneider about team goals and expectations for the end of the season.
"Team expectations for this season are to return to the WPIAL championship, along with making it to the PIAA state tournament, stated Schneider. He added, "Something that separates our team from most is that we get along well. We usually go out to dinner after matches and practice rounds.
The recent reclassification from 2A to 3A was concerning for some. New classification meant a whole new set of teams, which meant a whole new game plan. However, the change did not seem to stunt the Trojans. They have been competing and hanging with the best of the best in the state.
Four of the Trojans qualified for the WPIAL Individual playoffs as well. Seniors, Tommy Burke, Ethan Ellis, Erik Schneider, and Jr Hufnagel competed Tuesday at Champion Lakes Golf Club were the first round was held. It was a challenging day on the course with the weather conditions but Ethan Ellis and Erik Schneider led the way and will be advancing on to the second round after both shot a first round score of 83.
The WPIAL boys' golf individual championship is now played in a two-round format. The scores accumulated from the first round will carry over to their respective championships. The second round will be played on Thursday, October 6, at Allegheny Country Club.
