Cranberry Twp. PA – The North Catholic Trojans looked to get their first regular season victory at their home opener on Tuesday. They had dropped their game the previous week to the Quaker Valley Quakers 5-1.
The Bobcats struck first with a goal from F Sammy Mecchia at the end of the first period. Despite controlling the game early, the Trojans just couldn't finish on opportunities. It took until the end of the middle frame when D Kevin Kilkeary received a pass from D Taylan Zeigler and took a wrist shot through traffic that found the back of the net. Following Kilkeary's goal, F Samuel Langer scored on the power play to give the Trojans the lead, 2-1. Just two minutes later, F Evan Schmidt tied the game back up for Beaver, 2-2, also on the power play. F Michael Derda followed up with a goal off an odd-man rush, which gave the Bobcats the upper hand heading into the third period. With the Trojans down by one, the team looked for their upperclassmen to take charge. F Conor Bradrick did just this, as he notched back-to-back goals including one on the power play to give North Catholic the lead, 4-3. The Trojans edged the Bobcats by a goal to earn a win in their home opener.
North Catholic's (1-1) next game is at home against the Richland Rams (0-1) on Thursday, October 23rd at 8:00 pm.
