Wheeling, WV – The North Catholic Trojans took on the Wheeling Park Patriots, riding high from their win against the Butler Tornadoes 6-0. North Catholic went 3 for 5 on the power play (60.0%) and had 7 different contributors on the score sheet that helped seal victory with Senior F Beckett Dunn leading the way with a 4-point night. Junior G Wyatt Cleveland posted a shutout, stopping all 28 shots faced. On the other hand, this would be the Patriots first game of the season.
The Game:
1st Period – It was an action-packed 1st period as both teams started to rack up penalty minutes early. Trojans' Junior D Lukas Hixon was given a misconduct for a hit to the head. A few minutes later, Junior F Carson Paglia would engage in a fight with Senior F Kaden Schnarr, and both would be ejected from the game. Amid the tension, Junior F Conor Bradrick and Senior F Beckett Dunn would both find the back of the net to give North Catholic the lead, 2-0.
2nd Period – Junior F Miles Robinson would score his first goal of the season assisted by Dunn and Bradrick to extend the lead 3-0.
3rd Period – F Beckett Dunn would seal victory with an empty-netter, and the Trojans would come out on top, 4-0.
Analysis – Freshman G Darren Riley was a huge contributor to the win as he posted a shutout stopping all 32 shots faced in his debut. North Catholic lacked offense as they only had 18 shots on Patriots' G Hailey Hastings. After a handful of penalties in the 1st period, both teams would manage to stay out of the box for the remainder of the game. F Beckett Dunn would have another 4-point night with 2 goals and 2 assists. He now has 11 points in 3 games played, which is tied for 2nd-most in Varsity Class A. The Trojans move all the way to 4th in the Varsity A Blue Division (2-1-0). Their next game is Monday, October 21st away at Richland (0-2-0) at 8:00pm.
