Cranberry Twp. PA – The North Catholic Trojans took on the Wheeling Park Patriots last Tuesday at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. These teams have met earlier in the season, with North Catholic taking the first game of the series 4-0. The Trojans entered with a 5-game win streak, their most recent victory over the Freeport Yellow Jackets 11-2. On the other hand, the Patriots were coming off a win against Richland 8-3.
The Game – Wheeling Park opened up the scoring with a goal from F Owen Abraham just 6 minutes into the 1st period. The Trojans soon answered as Sophomore Renzo Sylvester, now back on defense, found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. In the 2nd period, North Catholic took the lead with a goal from Junior F Conor Bradrick. Wheeling Park proceeded to score 3 goals, two more from F Owen Abraham to complete the hat trick, pulling ahead 4-2. More offense continued in the 3rd, with Junior F Anthony Neely scoring to put the Trojans within one. The Patriots then sounded the goal horn twice as F Landon Szazynski and F Brody Groome increased the lead 6-3. Junior F Beckett Dunn scored with less than a minute left in the final frame, but the last effort would not be enough as Wheeling Park pulled out a 6-4 win.
Analysis – Junior G Wyatt Cleveland was in net for North Catholic stopping 34 of 40 shots on goal, posting a .850 SV%. Both F Conor Bradrick and F Anthony Neely led the team with 2 points each. The first line had a combined 5-point effort for the Trojans. Hampton is the next opponent for North Catholic as the two face off Monday night at Frozen Pond Arena. The Trojans currently sit 3rd in the Varsity A Blue Division with a 5-2-0 record.
