Cranberry Twp, PA – In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the North Catholic High School community and his exemplary leadership, Alex Lopez Foubert has been awarded the 2025 Alex Brown Athletic Leadership Award. This honor celebrates not only his athletic achievements in tennis and soccer but also his character and influence as a student leader.
During the 2025 tennis season, Alex showcased remarkable talent and determination, finishing with an impressive 16-4 record. As team captain and the emotional leader of the squad, he made a significant impact both on and off the court. Transitioning from doubles to singles mid-season, Alex excelled with a notable 13-2 record at 3rd singles. His only defeats came against formidable opponents, including the 3rd place team in AAA, Mt. Lebanon, and Conrad Weiser during the state team quarterfinals. Many believe he was the finest 3rd singles player in all of WPIAL AA.
One of the highlights of Alex's season was his extraordinary comeback against Winchester Thurston in the quarterfinal match, where he overcame a first-set loss of 1-6 to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-3. Additionally, he partnered with Alex Weber to claim victory in the Section Doubles tournament and advanced to the WPIAL Doubles Quarterfinals. Finally, he earned the first point for North Catholic in the finals against Valley with a decisive 6-4, 6-2 win.
Alex's contributions extended beyond his personal achievements. As a three-year varsity starter and captain of the boys' tennis team, he played a pivotal role in leading his team to what was three consecutive state playoff appearances while earning multiple medals in the team tournament. His leadership was evident as he led the team in prayer before each match, fostering a positive and respectful team environment.
In addition to his tennis accolades, Alex was a four year member of the boys' soccer team. He was a varsity contributor as a central defender the past two years. He was also a strong mentor for the underclassman.
Outside of athletics, it is evident to all that Alex lives the mission of North Catholic to be Christ-centered. He participated in campus ministry events by attending the lock in, joining morning prayer in the chapel, and serving as a reader at all school masses. After making Kairos 6, a student led 4-day retreat, Alex was an integral member of the Kairos 7 student core team sacrificing his time and talent to facilitate the retreat. Alex attended the Franciscan University of Steubenville summer conferences and in 2024 participated in Franciscan LEAD where he had the privilege of speaking to thousands of young people about his relationship with Jesus and journey of faith.
Alex's character is emblematic of the values we hold dear at North Catholic. His positive demeanor, kindness, and faith have made him a role model not only for his teammates but for the entire school community. His dedication to athletics and leadership embodies the spirit of this award, making him a truly deserving honoree.
The Alex Brown Athletic Leadership Award was first established in 2024, honoring its namesake, Alex Brown, who was a remarkable student-athlete and member of the North Catholic community. Alex Brown, achieved WPIAL and PIAA gold in track and was known for his enthusiastic support of fellow students at sporting events. Today, Brown, is a freshman at the University of Alabama, pursuing a degree in sports broadcasting while also competing as a member of the Para Track and Field team.
