Spring Sports Recap | April 27 – May 1, 2026

Cranberry Twp, PA - North Catholic athletes closed out April and opened May with postseason success, milestone performances, and strong team efforts across multiple sports. From playoff wins on the tennis courts to strong pitching performances on the diamond, the Trojans delivered another memorable week of competition.

Boys Tennis Advances in WPIAL Playoffs

The boys' tennis team continued its impressive postseason run with a dominant 5–0 victory over Ellwood City in the WPIAL First Round on April 27. As the No. 2 seed, North Catholic made a strong statement, winning every match in straight sets. Justin Garvey, Alex Weber, and Jake Sinclair all secured singles victories, while both doubles teams cruised to decisive wins.

The Trojans followed up with a 4–1 win over Hampton in the WPIAL Quarterfinals on May 1. Garvey and Weber again delivered straight-set wins, while Sinclair battled through a marathon third-set tiebreaker to clinch the decisive point and send North Catholic deeper into playoff competition.

Softball Highlights Week with Perfect Game

North Catholic softball produced one of the most remarkable performances of the season on April 27, defeating Shadyside Academy 14–0 behind a perfect game from Kennedy Brown. Brown struck out 12 batters over five flawless innings, not allowing a single hit or run. The Trojanettes supported the effort with 17 hits, including four RBIs from Clare Kotwica and three hits from Addy Gray

The Trojanettes later faced tough competition, falling to Hampton and Beaver, but continued to show offensive balance and patience at the plate as the regular season progressed.

Flag Football Caps Regular Season with Key Wins

Flag football continued its strong season with a 27–7 win over North Hills on April 27. Ava Vangura starred on both sides of the ball, catching two touchdown passes and recording two interceptions. Gabby Valentine threw three touchdown passes, as the Trojanettes improved to 9–3 on the season.

North Catholic added a forfeit win over Nazareth Prep before closing the season against North Allegheny, finishing the year with a 10–4 record, highlighted by a competitive and growth-filled campaign.

Baseball Battles Strong Opposition

Baseball faced a challenging slate during the week, including matchups with Blackhawk and Central Catholic. Despite the results, the Trojans continued to produce offensively. Luca Guzowski collected multiple extra-base hits, while Matthew Madonna, Landon Eifler, and Landon Petok all contributed RBIs during the stretch.

Boys Volleyball Earns Statement Win

Boys' volleyball earned an impressive 3–1 victory over Mars on May 1, bouncing back from earlier losses in the week. The Trojans responded well after dropping the second set, closing the match with strong finishes in sets three and four to secure the win.

Girls Lacrosse Shows Offensive Depth

Girls' lacrosse enjoyed a productive stretch to close April, opening with a 13–2 win over Ambridge on April 28. The Trojanettes showcased balanced scoring, with seven different players finding the net.

On April 29, North Catholic earned a thrilling 10–9 victory over Aquinas Academy, led by a five-goal performance from Kate Geary. Maddie Hill anchored the defense with 10 saves in goal as the Trojanettes held off a late push to secure the win.
