Cranberry Twp, PA - Spring sports continued to shine in early May, highlighted by a historic championship performance on the track, dominant outings in lacrosse and softball, and a thrilling comeback victory on the volleyball court.
Girls Track Captures Historic WPIAL Championship
The North Catholic Girls Track & Field team delivered a program-defining performance, capturing the WPIAL Class 2A Team Championship in dramatic fashion.
The Trojanettes clinched the title in the final event of the meet, the 4x400 relay, where the team of Alexa Stoltz, Megan Heinbach, Ella Eiler, and anchor Lydia Pierce ran a season-best race to secure the championship. North Catholic edged Quaker Valley 77–73, denying the Quakers a fifth straight title and earning the program's first WPIAL team championship.
The victory capped a dominant day that included multiple event wins and standout performances across sprints, relays, and field events. The Trojanettes also defeated both Laurel and Burrell in the team format, showcasing depth and consistency across the lineup en route to gold.
Girls Lacrosse Continues Offensive Surge
Girls lacrosse posted two impressive victories during the week.
The Trojanettes rolled past Oakland Catholic 15–6 on May 4, led by four goals from Kate Geary and balanced scoring from across the lineup. Emily Birchok recorded eight saves in goal to anchor the defense.
The Trojanettes followed up with a dominant 19–5 win over West Allegheny on May 7. Twelve different players scored, highlighting the team's depth and offensive efficiency in one of its most complete performances of the season.
Softball Builds Momentum with Two Wins
The Trojanettes continued their strong run with back-to-back victories.
On May 4, North Catholic defeated Butler 8–5, rallying from an early deficit before scoring four runs in the fourth and adding insurance in the seventh. The offense produced 13 hits, led by Kennedy Brown's four-hit performance and three RBIs from Eva Rocha.
North followed with a 5–3 win over Blackhawk on May 5. Brown dominated in the circle, striking out 14 batters while allowing just three hits. Rocha's two-run homer proved pivotal as the Trojanettes secured the win.
Boys Volleyball Rallies for Five-Set Victory
Boys volleyball delivered one of the most exciting matches of the week, rallying from an 0–2 deficit to defeat Portersville Christian 3–2.
After dropping the first two sets, the Trojans stormed back to win the final three (25-21, 25-14, 15-11), showcasing resilience and composure under pressure in a thrilling comeback victory.
Baseball Faces Tough Tests Against Beaver
Baseball endured a challenging stretch against Beaver.
The Trojans fell 4–1 on May 4 despite a standout performance from Matthew Madonna, who went 3-for-4 with a double and stolen base. Relief pitching kept the game within reach, holding Beaver scoreless across multiple innings.
North Catholic later dropped a 14–4 decision, with Landon Petok leading the offense with three hits and a double as the team continued to battle against strong competition.
Boys Lacrosse Continues to Compete
Boys lacrosse faced a tough matchup against Shaler on May 6, falling 19–5 while continuing to gain experience as the regular season comes to an end.
