The North Catholic Varsity Softball team wrapped up a challenging regular season last Monday, May 9, against the Plum Mustangs. The team finished third in their section with an overall record of 6-6. Despite injuries, the 12-member team rallied together to qualify for the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs, entering the tournament as the #9 seed.
Senior pitcher Abbie Sutton, who committed to Chowan University to play softball, played a key role in the team's success so far this season. She recorded 92 strikeouts in the 62 innings she pitched. Offensively, sophomore Liliana Koller led the team in hitting. Other notable offensive contributions came from seniors Sophie Wiesner and Carys Mundy, as well as sophomore Anna Zahorchak and freshman Samantha Foley.
The Trojanettes will play the defending 3A Champions, the Mt. Pleasant Vikings, in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. The game is being played at Fox Chapel High School on Tuesday, May 17th starting at 5:00 PM.
