Luke Lamb recently concluded his impressive swim career at North Catholic, clinching the PIAA State Title in the 100 backstroke last weekend. Throughout his career, Lamb has won a total of eight championships, and has just recently signed to continue swimming at the United States Naval Academy.
At the PIAA Class 3A Swimming Championships, Lamb placed eighth in 50 freestyle with a time of 20.72 seconds on Friday, leaving him motivated to bounce back in the 100 backstroke on Saturday. In preliminaries, he posted a time of 48.34 and clinched first place. It was not until later that evening when Lamb recorded his best time ever, 47.78 seconds that won him the state title. He was only one of two WPIAL swimmers to attain an individual title at the Class 3A boys meet.
In addition to his latest victory, Lamb has earned several more medals throughout his remarkable career. Lamb won two WPIAL titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke this season. In 2024, he claimed both the PIAA and WPIAL titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while in 2023 he was a member of the 100-medley relay team that won the WPIAL Gold. Lamb now holds the PIAA State record in the 100 backstroke, and broke the WPIAL record in all three events.
Notable accolades that
Luke Lamb received while swimming are the NISCA All America for winning the PIAA 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, and the Scholastic All America for achieving benchmark times in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, and 200 backstroke in addition to maintaining a GPA above 3.5.
This past January, Lamb was chosen for the USA swimming National Select Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He earned this invitation by swimming the 2nd fastest 100 meter backstroke among all 15-16 year old boys in the United States in the summer of 2024.
His athleticism and scholarship made him a highly sought-after candidate for admission in the United States Naval Academy where he will be a Freshman in the Fall.
