WPIAL Track Championship Recap

Slippery Rock, PA - For North Catholic, the WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championships held at Slippery Rock University, were highlighted by a near-miss finish and a heartbreaking relay setback.

In the boys 400-meter dash, Trojan standout Logan Schade delivered an incredible performance, pushing defending champion Jerry Davis from Greensburg Central Catholic to the absolute limit. The two runners were stride for stride down the stretch in a thrilling finish, with Schade narrowly placing second by just one-thousandth of a second (48.970 to 48.969).  Just last week, Schade narrowly edged Davis in the race at the WPIAL Class 2A Team Championships, with Schade finishing in 49.88 and Davis 50.00.

On the girl's side, the top-seeded 400-meter relay team entered with championship expectations after posting the fastest time in the state this season. However, the race took an unfortunate turn in the first exchange when Madelyn Primer was knocked off stride, resulting in a dropped baton. Despite recovering to finish the race, the Trojanettes placed 14th and fell out of state contention.  This outcome was especially difficult given the team's potential to defend its state title.
